Ground plane – for enhanced performance of the GNSS antenna

Optimization of the directional characteristics

A ground plate shapes the antenna's radiation pattern so that signals from satellites at high elevation (directly overhead) are preferentially received, while interference from the sides/below is suppressed.

Increased positioning accuracy

Since multipath effects are one of the main sources of error in GNSS measurements, a good ground plane directly improves the accuracy of position determination.

Shielding against electromagnetic interference

The ground plate also acts as a shield against interference signals coming from below the antenna, which can be generated, for example, by electronics in the instrument panel.
